Outreach Program & Services


The Outreach Program is dedicated to providing preventative general counselling along with support services, education, information, and referrals related to family/domestic violence across both rural and urban communities within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

The Outreach Support Services at Waypoints are here to assist individuals facing or having experienced any type of domestic-family abuse, including: child abuse (past or present), intimate partner violence (past or present) and/or relationship conflicts (past or present). The Outreach Counselling Services provide general preventative counselling, resources, and referrals to individuals across the municipality. The Outreach Public Awareness Services provide education through presentations, workshops and information booths.

What Can I Expect When Calling the 24/7 Family Violence Crisis Line?

When reaching out to the Family Violence Crisis Line, here's what you can expect:

  • Crisis Intervention Workers (CIW) available to answer your call 24/7, every day of the year.

  • No requirement to be in immediate crisis to make a call.

  • Upon greeting, a CIW will inquire about your needs and provide assistance accordingly.

  • All requests for information, referrals, and support will be addressed while ensuring your safety and confidentiality.

  • If calling during a crisis, the CIW will assess your safety and offer support accordingly.

  • If safe, the CIW will address your questions and concerns; if not, they'll help you explore safety options promptly.

  • We encourage women interested in shelter accommodation to visit for a chat, with transportation provided if needed.

Outreach
Counselling Services

Our counsellors provide:

  • Free individual counselling for individuals of all genders

  • Various techniques to aid in managing and resolving diverse experiences

  • Enrich and strengthen individual coping skills to develop strong and healthy family environments

  • Short-term individual counselling for support networks including family members, partners, and friends

Support Services in the Outreach Program

Our dedicated staff are here to offer personalized support and services to individuals or their support networks who have been impacted by any form of trauma related to domestic-family violence or conflict.

Our services include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing individual support sessions and programming

  • Offering information on accessing counseling services

  • Providing psychoeducation resources

  • Offering guidance on reporting options

  • Advocacy and accompaniment to the hospital, court, or RCMP

  • Psycho-educational support group programming

  • Referring individuals to community agencies and resources such as the Wood Buffalo Food Bank and Alberta Works

All our services are provided free and offered by appointment.


Outreach Public Awareness
& Training

The Outreach Program organizes a range of presentations and workshops across the Region covering topics related to domestic-family violence and relationship conflicts.

These sessions can be customized to suit the audience and timeframe. Our audiences typically include schools, youth groups, service providers, and community members.
